1999 Annual General Meetings
National Co-ordinator's Report to the 1999 AGM
The National Office in Canberra is DCI-Australia’s operational base. We can be found in Room F10 at the Griffin Centre, Bunda Street, in the city centre.
With voluntary help we open the office on Tuesdays, Wednsesdays and Thursdays, usually from 9.30 to 5.00. These are the things we do:
provide information to visitors, researchers and enquirers
hold meetings with visitors, campaign groups
maintain a specialist reference collection on children’s rights (books, reports, papers, press cuttings, videos, tapes, kits, periodicals)
produce the quarterly newsletter Australian Children's Rights News and other publications
distribute DCI’s international publications
arrange fundraising activities in the ACT
keep the organisation’s complete financial records
maintain a database of members, subscribers, contacts, enquirers etc
The Volunteers
During the last year a total of 22 volunteers helped in the office with the above tasks. Many of these were referred to us by Volunteering ACT.
This stream of the volunteers makes the office sometimes a very busy place. It also means we do a lot of training, for instance with migrants who are still learning
English, students who are looking for work experience, and jobseekers. Many of them gain employment while they are working with us with the help of a reference.
